SOUTH OREGON

By Samantha Virk

I was invited to fish Southern Oregon by Chuck Defoe of KEN’S SPORTING GOODS in Crescent, Oregon. Chuck arranged for me to go fishing with Chad Meadows, a young local guide. We fished the Williamson River, Rocky Point, Three Rivers, Upper Deschutes River and below the Wickiup Reservoir. We were a week late for going after the Kokanee salmon, and the German Brown were filling up on salmon eggs, but we still managed to catch some nice rainbows. KEN’S SPORTING GOODS is an iconic building about 40 minutes north of Klamath Falls. The outside of the store has a huge bear with a fish standing on the roof which makes it a “must see” photo stop, but the inside of the store presents an odd combination of liquor store, gun shop & fish supply center. The best part of KEN’S SPORTING GOODS is the incredibly friendly and informed staff. After 3 days of visiting these people, I would consider them my friends forever. YOU have to stop there if you are anywhere close to that area.
